Boston Bruins Schedule 2026-27

The Boston Bruins joined the NHL in 1924 as the league's first team based in the United States. Owner Charles Adams chose brown and gold, the colors of his grocery stores. The Bruins are one of the Original Six clubs, along with Montreal, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago and the New York Rangers.

The first three Cups

Boston won its first Stanley Cup in 1929, in only its fifth season. Two more came in 1939 and 1941, led by the Kraut Line of Milt Schmidt, Woody Dumart and Bobby Bauer. Then the team went 29 years without a title.

Bobby Orr and the 1970s

Bobby Orr changed how defensemen play. He won eight straight Norris Trophies from 1968 through 1975. His overtime goal beat St. Louis in 1970 and ended the long wait, and the photo of him flying through the air is still the club's best known image. Boston won again in 1972, with Phil Esposito scoring 76 goals in the 1970-71 season.

Bourque, Neely and the Garden years

Ray Bourque spent 21 seasons in Boston and won five Norris Trophies. Cam Neely gave the team its power forward. The Bruins reached the Final in 1988 and 1990 and lost both times to Edmonton. In 1995 the club moved out of Boston Garden into the building next door, now called TD Garden.

The 2011 Cup and after

The Bruins won their sixth Stanley Cup in 2011. They beat Vancouver 4-0 in Game 7 on the road, with Tim Thomas in goal and Zdeno Chara as captain. Boston lost in the Final again in 2013 to Chicago and in 2019 to St. Louis, both in Game 7. In 2022-23 the team set NHL records with 65 wins and 135 points in one season, then lost in the first round. Patrice Bergeron retired that summer with a record six Selke Trophies as the league's best defensive forward.

Per NHL.com, the Bruins have six Stanley Cups and more than 100 years in the league, all of it in Boston.
