NHL scores update on this page on their own: live while games are on, and final within minutes of the last horn. Use the arrows on the scoreboard to step back through any game day of the 2026-27 season. All times are Eastern Time (ET).

How to Read an NHL Score

The away team is listed first, the home team second. So “Boston 3, Toronto 2” means Boston won in Toronto. The winning team is highlighted once a game is final.

Under each final you’ll see the period line, like 1-0, 2-1, 0-1. That’s away then home for the first, second and third period. Add them across and you get the final score. It’s a quick way to see if a team led early or came back late.

What you see	What it means
Final	Settled in the three 20-minute periods.
Final/OT	Tied after 60 minutes, then decided in a 5-minute 3-on-3 overtime.
Final/SO	Still tied after overtime, then decided by a shootout.
A 0 in the score	A shutout. The goalie kept the other team off the board.
Live	The game is in progress. The score refreshes on its own.
Postponed	The game was called off and will be played on a new date.

One more thing to watch for. A late goal that turns a one-goal game into a two-goal game is often an empty-net goal, scored after the losing team pulls its goalie for an extra skater.

What NHL Scores Mean for the Standings

A win is worth 2 points, no matter how it comes. A team that loses in overtime or a shootout still gets 1 point. A loss in regulation is worth nothing. That’s why two teams with the same number of wins can sit far apart in the table.

Two tiebreakers come straight out of these results. RW counts only wins inside 60 minutes. ROW counts wins in regulation and overtime, but not shootouts. Both reward teams that finish games early, so a pile of shootout wins helps less than the points column suggests.

What I’m watching: the ROW column. Two teams can finish level on points, and ROW usually decides who gets the playoff spot. It’s worth a glance in March, not just in April.

The playoffs drop the shootout. A tied playoff game goes to full 20-minute sudden-death periods until someone scores. That’s how the longest games in hockey happen.

Where the NHL Scores Come From

Scores on this page come from a live league data feed, not from anyone typing them in. They match the scorebug you see on the broadcast and land as soon as the feed publishes them. Postponed and cancelled games are labelled, not hidden, so each date stays a full record of what was scheduled.

There are more scores to catch up on this season. Each team plays 84 games, up from 82, which adds 32 games to the league total for a record 1,344. The season runs from Sept. 29, 2026 to April 10, 2027.
